If a glass panel can be mistaken for a doorway or opening the glass shall be marked to make it visible. Visual glazing strips provide an easy solution to help alert people and prevent them from walking into, or through, any glazed doors or walls. Safety strips shall be readily apparent, so make sure that it contrasts with the background.

In accordance with the Australian standards AS1288, if the presence of glass in the door or side panel is not made apparent by stiles, rails, transoms, colonial bars, other components of the glazing system, or other decorative treatment, such as being opaque or patterned, the glass shall be marked to make it visible. Where the NCC requires access for people with disabilities, glazing in buildings shall be marked in accordance with AS 1428.1.
