Strengthened / Tempered Glass Detector | SG2700

Confirm if your single or double-pane glass has been strengthened. Strengthened glass can include Heat Strengthened Glass, Tempered Glass, and Safety Glass. It is also sometimes referred to as "Toughened Glass." Test single or multiple panes - on double-pane glass, you can test both panes at the same time. This is especially helpful with installed windows when one side of the glass is difficult or impossible to get to. It is also much more efficient in the factory - testing on either side offers substantial time savings and is more straightforward than being required to test both sides. Identify the thickness of the first pane of glass.

Features:

  • Rugged LED Technology allows the SG2700 to stand up to bumps and drops in the field. Filament lamp-based technology as a light source is fragile and can break easily if dropped in the field. Using LEDs in the SG2700 eliminates expensive repairs and downtime caused by damaged instruments.
  • Specialized Optics allows users to view the surface reflections head-on. There is no need to tilt your head to a specific angle to view the strengthened glass test results.
  • Energy Efficient Design. The SG2700 is powered by a standard 9-volt alkaline battery that is simple to purchase and replace. There are no inconvenient power cords involved. An automatic power-down feature also further extends battery life.
  • Light Blocking Cloth for extreme lighting conditions is included. The unit also comes with a protective carrying case.

 Applications:

  • In the factory to confirm stacks of glass: If crates are unmarked, the SG2700 can offer a quick test to ensure the glass has been processed (strengthened). This can be helpful at the glass processing plant where the glass is tempered or the assembly plant where the windows are being constructed. This test certainly beats the alternative destructive test of breaking a piece of glass to see if it has been processed.
  • In the field to confirm strengthened glass in windows: This is necessary when the tempered stamp on the window's bottom corner is forgotten or hidden behind the jamb.
  • Window replacement applications: When replacing a window, determine whether the glass is tempered to reorder and replace it with the correct product. It is not uncommon for older windows to not contain any stamp indicating whether it's tempered glass on the bottom corner of the window.
  • Window tinting applications: Tinters often need to know if the windows they are about to tint contain tempered glass. It could impact the type of film selected for the project.
  • IG repair (seal failure): It is necessary to know whether the windows being repaired contain tempered glass, as repair technicians cannot drill holes into the tempered glass.
  • Building inspectors and architects: The SG2700 is the perfect tool to spot-check windows on a job site and to check incoming windows to confirm the product has been appropriately labeled.
